Phil was born in Pittsburgh, PA and grew up in Naples, FL. He read Philosophy, Sociology, and Psychology at Columbia College in the City of New York.
In 2006, Phil moved to Botswana (Southern Africa) for an experiential education. Maru-a-Pula School, the subject of his upcoming book, was both home and work for 2.5 intense years. He taught, presented papers, held photography and mixed-media exhibitions...and ithutile Setswana.
Having enrolled in the first cohort of the country's first Oral History masters program, Phil is once again a New Yorker. His conceptual interest is in deconstructing narrativity and intersubjective spaces in order to interrogate the utopian/dystopian foundations of community.
